Day 1 (November 11, 2005)
We left Big Jim's
house (Jackson Point) at 6:00 AM. Jim assured us that his Dodge can make
it to the park. Stopped at McDonalds for breakfast and coffee. At
the West Gate just on time, 9:00. - Started at 9:25 AM, snow in the park about 2", temp +2C, sunny - Maple Leaf Lake 10:45 (nice campsites) - Little Hardy Creek 12:00 - Maggie Lake (second site) 1:15 - Lunch Break 30 minutes - Started at 1:45 - Intersection Loop 1/2 at 3:00 - The bridge (potential camp site) at 3:45 - Finally at Clara Lake 5:45 - Fell asleep at 8:00 pm temp -7C
- Long walk for the first day. Last one hour was night hiking, we had to use our flashlights to follow the trail. - Nice and sunny all day, snow everywhere. Lot of tracks in the snow including otters and another fella hiker. - Clara Lake camp site is right on the trail. No firewood. Access to the water good. - Cold weather and long walking day forced us to go to bed as soon as we were done with dinner. The coldest night but the best sleep. Over 11 hours of sleeping time, we woke up at 7:30. Total walking time: 7 hours 50 min Total distance: 23.3 km Average speed: 2.98 km/hr
